Tucson Meet Yourself again calls upon folk artists to share your traditions and skills and participate in October! New for 2010: We are expanding our Folk Arts Marketplace which will give artists an opportunity to sell a selection of handmade arts and crafts. Come to the meeting to learn more.

Experience the Caribbean Without Leaving Home!

Don’t miss this explosive demonstration of Caribbean folk dancing at its finest, right here in Tucson.  Sonny Salina, renowned Caribbean folk dancer, choreographer and one of the world’s top limbo dancers, will be sharing his skill and knowledge with the community on August 10th and 11th at the Armory Park Center, 220 S. 5th Avenue, from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. Hosted by the Armory Park Center and the Arts for Life Community.  Cost is $10.  For more information, contact Richard Noel, at 1ki@q.com, or the Armory Park Center, at 791-4865. Salina will also be performing with Sticks and Fingers, a local percussion group performing Afro-Caribbean music, at Celebrate Tucson!

A Tribute to the Cultures of Tucson
Fox Theater August 14, 2010

A Tucson Birthday-inspired event celebrating the cultures of Tucson is slated for August 14 from 7 to 9pm at Tucson’s historic Fox Theater.
Celebrate Tucson! A tribute to the cultures of Tucson will feature entertainment from local groups including Sticks & Fingers (featuring Tucson Meet Yourself Board member Richard Noel!) Los Gallegos, and Mariachi Sonido de Mexico. Special guests include Olga Flores, Salvador Duran and the Gospel Music Workshop of America!

The event will coincide with Tucson’s Birthday month-long celebration and the monthly 2nd Saturday Night festivities in Downtown Tucson. The free event, presented in collaboration with Tucson Meet Yourself, will also offer a special memories tribute to Cele Peterson. Donations gratefully accepted.
