Mehendi is used to beautify the woman. Along with the rest of her makeup, intricate designs are drawn on her palms and feet to enhance her beauty. Putting Mehendi on the bride and the bridal party becomes part of the wedding ceremony. Women also use it as part of their makeup on special occasions and celebrations.
Mehendi is made from the leaves of the Henna plant which is a shrub. Usually the leaves are dried and ground into a powder, which is mixed with tamarind water to make a paste, and applied to the palm by using a cone-shaped apparatus.
Mehendi will start to fade in 3 to 5 days and will completely be gone in 2 weeks. It also has some medicinal value. It may be used as a hair dye and conditioner. |
